Jeff, Well said. Didn't God give satan only limited power? That's my understanding of their relationship.

That is most definitely a quandry you are in. You're stuck between what the mind thinks it should know versus what seems hard to wrap your mind around. I understand that. I can't wrap my mind around the fact that we were evolved from monkeys. It mak…

Abortion and the question of when a fetus is considered to be alive are two very hot topics. As I said in another post, I believe abortion is inevitable. It will always be around whether we, as humans, like it. I tend to agree with the Liberals to a point. They believe that abortion is OK if the fetus is going to live a life that is "frustrated" (i.e., grave deformity that would be life deprived, painful, frustrating for both child and parent). (Stewart p. 309). Of course, frustrated is a term t… Continue

Conclusion to Big Bang and Other Thoughts

It is obvious that science and Christians will never share the same beliefs. Having said that, the Pope is currently encouraging Christians to believe that evolution and creationism can go hand-in-hand. This is a bitter pill to swallow for true believers in "God created the heavens and the Earth."

In my other blog, I brought up the naturalist theory. I touched on the fact that naturalism cannot describe how we process thoughts. As Socrates stated "the naturalist approach to reality has difficul… Continue

Big Bang and Other Thoughts

It's a very interesting topic - was the Earth God's creation, or did it just happen out of nothingness? If it happened out of nothingness, what is the point of life here on Earth? If there is no God, what is our purpose? If we have no purpose, then why were so many things created for a purpose (one example - plants create oxygen). If there are aliens in our universe, what is their purpose?

Many have touched on the idea of creationism with evolution. I don't understand this. If we evolved from m… Continue

Summary of Women in Religion

Well, I'm not sure where we got with this. We all agree that women were seen as mere property and no value was placed upon them in the Old Testament. However, I am aware that Jesus Christ did not feel that way. He washed Mary Magdalen's feet in her deepest hour. I don't think Jesus saw women as mere objects. I think he was magnificent in appreciating all genders. Obviously, men of that time still did not see it that way.

But we have come a long way. I think sometimes we are our own worst enemie… Continue

Roman, I can't figure out what you read into what I wrote. I was saying that to worry about anything, even the worry of whether you are lusting, is a lust, because it takes away your ability to be aware of your true needs. The only time a lust can…

God said lust is good! Its just supposed to be focused on one's wife. God likes sex, and I think its one of His best inventions. He also told us who such a powerful drive should be used.

Roman, mental blindness due to emotion is the sin. Lust is just a cause. The act of worrying of lusting is in itself a lust. Lust, from the word "luster" refers to wanting something so much that it gains a priority in your heart high enough that y…

Here we go again. So according to you two, the inevitable personal momentary application of lustful imagery that often accompanies masturbation is and evil sin? You mean to tell me you only picture beautiful sunsets when you climax? C’mon!
Exactly!! It requires lust. Lust is desire so strong that it causes blindness. I comes from the word "luster" and refers to something so appealing that the finer concerns cannot be discerned. Jesus hardly qualifies.
Actually Roman, people who claim the Bible forbids masturbation don't have any basis. If they refer to Onan, his sin was disobedience. The issue, if there is one is lust, or coveting.

What sort of sick mentality still attributes masterbation to phrases like 'self-abuse' with all its very damaging connotations, of which originate from and regretfully continue to this day amongst puritanical religious convictions?
